Realizing Abundance
Good morning and welcome to a long weekend!
Doesn’t having a 3-day weekend feel like we just acquired an extra day that we didn’t have before? It’s like finding a $20 in your jeans’ pocket after washing. “Wow, I didn’t even realize I had that! I’m rich!”
This is the perfect time to chat about abundance. And when I say abundance, I’m referring to having so much that we don’t run out. Enough that we never worry. Plenty.
The great news is, we foxes already lead abundant lives. The challenge is in realizing that abundance. When we do, it feels exactly like finding that forgotten $20, or getting an extra long weekend to play. It brings peace and delight in living.
So, how do we realize our abundance? With an attitude of gratitude.
As I write this, I can feel my own judgment monster rearing it’s ugly head, snarling, “You’re not a fox, you’re a cheese-ball hippie nutter-butter!” We’ll deal with the judgment monster in future newsletters (and recognize that hippies can be foxes too!). For now, I’ll admit that my answer sounds cheesy and simplistic. But does that matter if practicing gratitude actually works? After all, it's always foxy to celebrate life.
The magic of choosing an attitude of gratitude is two-fold. First, we can immediately realize benefits because our attitude is our own personal domain. We already have all the power we need to choose and change our attitudes.
Second, practicing gratitude takes us out of living in the past, or the future, and brings us into living in the now. The present is a beautiful place to be! And the present is where the happiest foxes reside. That’s because foxes living in the now generally aren’t plagued by anxiety (arising from fear of the future) or depression (arising from dread over repeating the doomed past).
Focusing on what we have here and now shifts our views of the world to bring us more happiness and abundance than we ever thought we could realize. It’s a wonderful surprise to discover what beautiful lives we’ve been living all along. And even if we are unhappy with some part of our lives, we are rich in the possibility and ability to change.
Happiness beckons, my foxy friends. So let’s practice an attitude of gratitude, and celebrate our abundant lives. To start your practice, send me a note sharing one thing that you’re grateful for. When you hit send, I’m confident that you will feel light and bright and ready to celebrate the day. Just like the way I feel when I write this newsletter for you, for us.
Three cheers for my lovely foxes,
