Foxy Decision-making, part 4 - The Positive Decision Loop

Foxy New Year, Part 1

Foxy Decision-making, part 4

Hello, sweet foxes!

You can have your cake and eat it too. Nom nom nom. 🧁

We’ve all heard some variant of the original phrase - “you CAN’T have your cake and eat it too” - which Wikipedia says dates back to March of 1538. I’d take a deep research dive with proper references as to the origin, but that is not the focus of this week’s newsletter. Instead, we are celebrating the benefits of actively deciding our lives, in the final part of my decision-making series.

We’ve closed information gaps and learned about our foxy selves, weighed the alternatives, and conquered fear. We are ready to decide our lives! So what does cake have to do with it?

Nothing really. Haha. It’s just that I want to reframe our perspective on the social notion that we can’t simultaneously “have,” and “enjoy.” If we are living a life of abundance (recall our previous discussion about practicing gratitude), then we have infinite capacity to “have” and “enjoy” experiences. To have and enjoy life. There’s always another cake to bake...and to eat!

So how do we make experiences positive and positive experiences abundant? By making healthy decisions aligned with our true desires. We can use my decision-making formula to tune into ourselves and discern the choices most likely serve our goals. As we make decisions, we benefit from the outcomes we experience, and add that new information to close future information gaps. Our experiences inform our future decisions, and make them even more aligned to serve our foxy goals. We become confident in our ability to progress and enjoy the positive results of actively deciding our lives. This is the positive decision loop.

Every day is a day we get to create. Every moment is an opportunity for us to enjoy, to grow, to adjust to serving our dreams. Every moment is ours. EVERY MOMENT.

It’s easy to take the status quo for granted and act like our time, energy and attention are owned by others. Yes, we need to give our full effort in fulfilling our duties. It sounds like there’s a “but” coming, but really, that is the key! If we wholeheartedly approach every task, no matter who it feels like it’s for, every endeavor becomes an opportunity to grow. We reclaim our days, our lives, for ourselves.

Let’s empower ourselves to own every moment, every decision. Passivity, begone! We don’t need to make a thousand decisions for this to work. All we need is one: this life is MINE. When we make this decision, we become empowered to inject our vision of what we want our lives to be into our current day-to-day. As we implement our decision-making skills to serve our true desires, we enter the positive decision loop. And loop-dee-loop, soon enough we will achieve and even outgrow our dreams. Don’t worry my foxes, there are always new dreams to be had!

So let’s have our cake and eat it too. Let’s step into the positive decision loop. Let’s actively own our days, our lives. We are rich in our ability to grow, to change, to make our days serve us. So let’s focus on practicing good decision-making and celebrate life by becoming the best foxes ever!

Next week, we’ll dig into how we can fuel the positive decision loop while fulfilling duties. It can be challenging to have the energy to grow and make positive decisions when we feel like our obligations consume the bulk of each day. So I’ll share my approach, and some of my experiences with and ideas for reclaiming our lives. Get ready for some nerdy storytelling, my foxes!

Is it time for cake yet? 🧁😂🦊

Three cheers for my lovely foxes,
